Baysbrown Farm Campsite

Cumbria

Working farm campsite at the entrance to Great Langdale, seven miles from Ambleside

About Baysbrown Farm Campsite

Baysbrown Farm Campsite sits at the entrance to the Great Langdale valley in the village of Chapel Stile, around seven miles from Ambleside along the A593 and B5343. The site occupies several fields on a working hill farm still run by the family that owns it, giving it a genuinely agricultural character with fell sheep grazing the surrounding slopes and the dramatic outline of the Langdale Pikes filling the view from almost every pitch.

Pitches are predominantly for tents, with a more limited allocation for campervans and small motorhomes given the farm-track access, and the site keeps facilities simple and functional: toilet and shower blocks are provided, but there is no shop or electric hook-up across most of the field, in keeping with the back-to-basics approach favoured by many of the walkers and climbers who return here year after year. Dogs are welcome throughout, and campfires are permitted in designated areas, a rarity in the more heavily managed sites closer to Windermere.

The site's position at the foot of Great Langdale makes it one of the best-placed campsites in the district for serious fell walking and climbing, with routes onto the Langdale Pikes, Bowfell and Crinkle Crags all starting within a short walk, while Ambleside remains close enough for a supply run or an evening meal for anyone who wants a change from farm-track simplicity.
