Lastra Farm is a 17th-century farm complex at Penrhyd, just outside Amlwch on the north coast of Anglesey. It has been restored by its owners into a small family-run hotel with a restaurant, and it keeps a good deal of the original stonework and beams. The setting is quiet countryside with open views, though the A5025 is less than a mile away, so it is easy to reach without feeling roadside.

Bedrooms are split between the older farmhouse building, where each room is individually shaped and furnished, and a set of eight ground-floor rooms added in 2019. The ground-floor rooms suit anyone who would rather avoid stairs and are a sensible choice for longer stays. There are also two self-catering cottage apartments and a separate gatehouse for guests who want their own front door. Dogs are welcome in most of the accommodation.

The restaurant is central to the business and has picked up a run of awards for its bistro cooking. Menus change with the seasons and lean on Anglesey and north Wales producers, and the dining room is open to non-residents, so booking is advisable at weekends. Breakfast is generous and cooked to order. Outside there are attractive gardens and the hotel holds a licence for civil ceremonies.

This corner of Anglesey is less visited than the south and west, which is part of the appeal. Bull Bay and its golf course are close by, the Anglesey Coastal Path runs along the cliffs to the north, and the copper-mining landscape of Parys Mountain is a short drive inland. Cemaes, Porth Wen and the beaches at Lligwy and Traeth yr Ora are all within a quarter of an hour. It suits walkers, golfers and couples looking for good food and a quiet base at a fair price.
