About Sandy Mount House
Sandy Mount House is a restaurant with rooms in Rhosneigr, the small west coast village that has become Anglesey's centre for surfing, kitesurfing and paddleboarding. The building has been reworked into something closer to a small design-led hotel, with a bar and dining room on the ground floor and bedrooms above.
There are seven bedrooms, no two the same. Five are oversized by the standards of a village property, and two on the upper floor look out over the coastline. The style is coastal without being twee: painted panelling, natural fabrics, good beds and proper bathrooms. Four rooms take dogs, which matters on a stretch of coast with dog-friendly beaches. Two rooms on the second floor share a corridor that can be closed off, making a self-contained pair for families or two couples travelling together.
The kitchen is a serious part of the operation, with a wood-fired oven and a menu that leans on Welsh beef and lamb, Menai Strait shellfish and local vegetables. Breakfast is cooked to order and included. The bar is popular with locals as well as guests, so evenings have some life to them rather than the hush of a country hotel.
Rhosneigr's beaches are a short walk away, and the village has a handful of surf shops, cafés and a well-regarded fish and chip shop. Traeth Llydan and Traeth Crigyll are the main strands, with Cable Bay and Newborough Warren a short drive south. The A55 and the railway station are both close, so it is one of the easier parts of Anglesey to reach without a long drive. It suits couples, small groups of friends and active families who want good food at the end of a day outdoors.
