Amberley Castle stands a few miles up the Arun valley from Arundel, a genuine fortified castle dating back around 900 years and enclosed by a sixty-foot curtain wall and working portcullis. Run as a Relais & Chateaux member hotel, it has nineteen bedrooms, no two alike, furnished with antiques and fine fabrics that lean into the building's medieval and Tudor history rather than smoothing it away, with several rooms set within the castle's original turrets.

The grounds include a private twelve-hole golf course, formal gardens within the castle walls and a restaurant serving a modern take on English country house cooking, built around produce from the surrounding South Downs.
