The Rutland Arms Hotel has stood on Bakewell's main square since 1804, built for the Duke of Rutland as a coaching inn and still trading in much the same role two centuries later. Part of the Coaching Inn Group's Premium Collection, it combines the heavy stonework and high ceilings of a Georgian building with a more contemporary approach to its eight room categories, which range from classic single and small double rooms through to deluxe four-poster suites.

Rooms are split between the main building and a converted courtyard behind it, giving guests a choice between period character and a slightly quieter, more modern setting a few steps from the square. All rooms come with premium linen, a smart TV and tea and coffee service, and the hotel's restaurant and bar serve food throughout the day, making it easy to eat in after a walk on the Monsal Trail or a day at Chatsworth.

The hotel's location could not be more central: the market square, the town's bakeries and the river are all within a couple of minutes on foot. Parking is limited on site, with an overflow car park across the road and several council pay-and-display car parks close by, worth noting on Bakewell's busy Monday market days.
