Castlewellan Forest Park's caravan and camping site sits within one of Northern Ireland's most attractive forest parks, built around a large ornamental lake and a Victorian arboretum planted by the Annesley family. The touring site occupies a sheltered clearing among mature conifers, giving good shelter from wind even in exposed weather, with the Mourne Mountains rising immediately to the south as a backdrop for walks straight from the pitch.
The site offers hook-up pitches for caravans and motorhomes alongside a separate tent area, with modern shower and toilet facilities and a small shop selling basics and forest park souvenirs during the main season. Cycling and walking trails run throughout the park's 1,100 acres, including a lakeside loop suitable for families and longer routes up into the surrounding forest, and dogs are welcome on leads across the estate. There is no glamping accommodation, keeping the site focused on traditional pitches.
Castlewellan village is a five-minute walk for pubs and a supermarket, and the site makes an excellent base for walking the Mourne Wall or driving the short distance to Newcastle and Tollymore Forest Park. Belfast is roughly an hour's drive north via the A24 and A1, making the site more suited to a countryside-focused break with a day trip into the city than a city-first stay.
