Glangrwyney Court

Glangrwyney, near Crickhowell · B&B

A Grade II listed Georgian mansion between Crickhowell and Abergavenny offering five-star bed and breakfast in nine individually designed rooms.

About Glangrwyney Court

Glangrwyney Court is a privately owned Georgian house on the eastern edge of the National Park, midway between Crickhowell and Abergavenny in the Vale of Grwyney. The family who live there run it as a five-star bed and breakfast rather than a hotel, so guests share the drawing room, the dining room and the grounds with the owners. The setting is four acres of walled garden and around thirty acres of parkland, with the Black Mountains rising behind.

Nine bedrooms are spread through the main house, each decorated individually with antiques, proper beds and en suite or private bathrooms. Some look over the walled garden, others across the parkland. The style is country house rather than boutique: patterned fabrics, framed prints, writing desks and armchairs. Breakfast is cooked to order and served in the dining room, using local eggs, bacon and sausage, and there is usually a decision to be made about whether to walk it off or not.

Facilities are modest by design. There is a tennis court, a croquet lawn, a hot tub and a good deal of garden to sit in, plus off-street parking. Dinner is available by arrangement for groups, and the converted barn holds a civil wedding licence, so the house is sometimes taken over for weddings and celebrations, worth checking when booking. Crickhowell, with its pubs, restaurants and the Sunday market, is a few minutes away by car.

It works best for couples and small groups who want somewhere quiet and characterful within striking distance of Table Mountain, the Sugar Loaf and the Usk valley walks, and who prefer a house with a host to an anonymous hotel. Guests wanting room service, a bar, a lift or late check-in should look elsewhere. Rates include breakfast and generally hold steady across the year.
