Brighton Caravan and Motorhome Club Site

East Sussex

The closest campsite to central Brighton, two miles from the seafront at Sheepcote Valley

About Brighton Caravan and Motorhome Club Site

Known for years by its old name of Sheepcote Valley, this is the only substantial campsite within the Brighton city boundary, tucked into a shallow valley in East Brighton Park about two miles north-east of the Palace Pier. It sits where the last of the South Downs runs down towards the sea, so the setting is open grassland with the city out of sight over the ridge, yet the beach at Black Rock and the Marina are a walk or a short bus ride away.

There are around 215 pitches in total, roughly 123 of them hardstanding and a dozen fully serviced, with a separate area of about 57 pitches set aside for tents. Camping pods are available for hire for anyone arriving without kit. Tents, caravans and motorhomes are all taken, and non-members can book, though members pay less. The facilities are the reason people keep coming back: heated shower and toilet blocks kept to the Club's usual standard, a laundry, chemical disposal, motorhome service point, LPG and a children's play area.

The site is open all year, which is unusual this close to the coast and makes it a genuine option for a winter visit when hotel prices are the only thing keeping people away. Buses run from the edge of the park into the city centre, and the walk down to the Undercliff and along to the Marina takes about half an hour. Being a large, well-organised site rather than a rural retreat, it is better suited to families and touring visitors who want Brighton on the doorstep than to anyone looking for solitude.
