Baltic Wharf is a genuine rarity: a proper touring campsite within Bristol's city boundary, set on the redeveloped docks a short walk from SS Great Britain and the harbourside museums. The site backs directly onto the floating harbour, and a gate at the rear opens onto a riverside path that leads straight into the city centre on foot, or you can pick up the passenger ferry that stops nearby for a more scenic approach.
The site takes touring caravans, motorhomes and a limited number of tents, with pitches laid out around a mix of hardstanding and grass. Facilities include electric hook-ups, a modern toilet and shower block, laundry facilities and a washing-up area, all kept to the Caravan and Motorhome Club's usual high standard. It is open to both members and non-members throughout the year, though it is well used and booking ahead is strongly advised, particularly around the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta in August when the whole city fills up.
There is no shop on site, but the harbourside's restaurants, pubs and the Wapping Wharf food container village are all within easy walking distance, so few visitors miss it. Cyclists are well catered for too, with the Bristol to Bath railway path accessible nearby, and the site's position five miles from the M5 makes it a straightforward stop for those touring the wider South West as well as a base for exploring the city itself.
