Ballater Caravan Park

Aberdeenshire

Award-winning riverside park five minutes from the centre of Ballater on Royal Deeside

About Ballater Caravan Park

Ballater Caravan Park occupies a level, sheltered site on the banks of the River Dee, five minutes on foot from the middle of Ballater. That combination of riverside setting and walkable village is unusual, and it makes the park a strong choice for anyone who wants Royal Deeside without needing the car for every meal and every pint. The park holds an AA four-star rating and has taken Campsite of the Year recognition.

There are generous pitches for touring caravans and for motorhomes, and a separate self-pitching area for tents, which keeps canvas away from the hardstandings. Booking is handled online through the park's own system, and rates vary by season, so it is worth checking directly rather than relying on published averages. The site is run to a consistently high standard and is popular enough with returning visitors that summer weekends and the Ballater Highland Games period go early.

What sets the park apart is what starts from its gate. The Seven Bridges walk loops out along both banks of the Dee, the Deeside Way runs east towards Aboyne and Banchory for cyclists, and salmon fishing on the Dee can be arranged locally. The park has its own Ballater Bike Hub providing secure storage, which matters if you are touring with expensive machines. Balmoral and Crathie are ten minutes west, Braemar half an hour, and the walk up Craigendarroch behind the village gives a short, steep viewpoint over the whole strath. Glen Muick and the long approach to Lochnagar are twenty minutes south, and the village itself keeps enough independent bakers, butchers and cafes to make restocking a pleasure rather than a chore.
