Ballyness sits on the southern edge of Bushmills village, laid out across three landscaped areas around a series of small ponds and mature planting that does a great deal of quiet work breaking the north Antrim wind. Fifty touring pitches are arranged on concrete hard standings generous enough to park a car alongside the caravan, each one fully serviced with a 16-amp electric hook-up, mains water and waste drainage. This is a touring and holiday-home park rather than a tent site, so pitches are for caravans, campervans and motorhomes only.
The standard is unusually high for a family-run park, and the recognition has followed: Ballyness was named the top campsite in the UK in Practical Caravan's Top 100 rankings. Facilities include a heated amenity block with constant hot water and free hot showers, family wash rooms, laundry, accessible and baby-changing facilities, upgraded wi-fi across the site and a motorhome service point. There is a children's play park and a football field, and a dedicated dog walk, with dogs made genuinely welcome rather than merely tolerated.
The location is the clincher for most visitors. The Old Bushmills Distillery is a walk away through the village, the Giant's Causeway is two miles up the road, and Dunluce Castle, Portballintrae and the Bushfoot strand are all within a few minutes by car. The Causeway Coast Way passes close by for walkers, and Portrush with its beaches, restaurants and golf is around fifteen minutes west. Expect to pay in the region of 35 pounds a night for a caravan or motorhome with two adults including electricity, water and drainage, with a small charge for extra occupants over five years old.
