About Netherwood Touring Site
Netherwood is a small, privately run touring park at Rowton, two and a half miles south-east of Chester, occupying a two-acre field behind Netherwood House on the Whitchurch Road. There are fifteen electric pitches in total, which keeps the site quiet even at the height of summer and makes it a very different proposition from the larger commercial parks on the edge of the city. A warden lives on site through the season.
The field backs directly onto the Shropshire Union Canal, and the towpath gives a flat, traffic-free walk into Chester that takes a little under an hour and delivers you at Tower Wharf beside the city walls. That connection is the site's real selling point: you can leave the car parked for the duration and still reach the cathedral, the Rows and the river on foot. There is a large recreational field beside the pitches used for dog walking and ball games, with a play area for children, and free wifi covers the site.
Facilities are modest and well kept rather than extensive. A converted stable block houses the toilets and showers, with one shower and two WCs per gender, alongside dishwashing sinks, drinking water and chemical and grey waste disposal points. Electric hook-up is charged as a daily extra. There is no shop on site, but a convenience store, a garage and a Calor Gas point are all close by, and two pubs within walking distance, the Cheshire Cat and the Poplars, both serve food. The site is licensed from mid-March to late October.
