Langstone Manor Holiday Park

Devon

Sheltered terraced park in the grounds of a Dartmoor manor house near Tavistock

About Langstone Manor Holiday Park

Langstone Manor lies in the walled grounds of a Victorian manor house on the western side of Dartmoor, a couple of miles from Tavistock and directly beneath the open moor at Whitchurch Down. Pitches are laid out in terraced and sheltered areas among mature trees and old garden walls, which makes it noticeably more protected than most moorland sites and easier to camp in on a windy night.

The park takes tents, touring caravans and motorhomes, with electric hook-ups available on most pitches, and also has glamping accommodation and static caravans for hire. Facilities include a modern shower and toilet block, laundry, a children's play area and a bar and restaurant in the manor house itself serving evening meals, which is unusual for a site of this size and useful when the weather turns. Wi-fi is available around the main buildings. Dogs are welcome, and there is a good deal of space to walk them straight from the gate.

The location is the strongest argument for staying here. Open access moorland begins within a few hundred metres, giving direct walking to Cox Tor, Great Mis Tor and the Merrivale stone rows without needing the car. Tavistock, with its covered Victorian pannier market and good food shops, is a short drive or a decent walk. Plymouth and the south coast are around forty minutes away, and the Tamar Valley on the Cornish border is closer still. Prices start from around 20 pounds a night for a pitch, and the site is open from spring to autumn. It is popular with walkers and stargazers, and stays quieter than the coastal parks even in August.
