The Coylet Inn stands on the banks of Loch Eck, around eight miles inland from Dunoon in the Argyll Forest Park, and has been welcoming travellers on this route for close to four hundred years. It is a proper coaching inn rather than a country hotel, with a working bar, a restaurant built around Scottish produce, and just four themed double bedrooms, three of them looking out over the loch and one over the hillside behind.

Under its current owners since 2020, the inn has built a reputation for its whisky selection and its use of local Scottish ingredients, alongside a genuinely dog-friendly welcome that includes water bowls and treats for visiting pets. Paddleboards and kayaks can be hired directly from the inn for exploring Loch Eck, and the surrounding forest paths and hillsides, including routes towards Puck's Glen and Benmore Botanic Garden, are within easy reach by car.

Its inland, lochside setting makes the Coylet a distinctive alternative to Dunoon's seafront hotels, better suited to walkers, anglers and wildlife-watchers who want to be based among the hills rather than on the coast, with the town itself a straightforward twenty-minute drive away.
