About Finchale Abbey Touring Park
Finchale Abbey Touring Park sits on the banks of the River Wear beside the ruins of Finchale Priory, a few miles north of Durham city centre. It is an adults-only site, which keeps it quiet even in peak season, and pitches look out over the river or the sandstone cliffs that rise behind the priory ruins.
Pitches include grass touring spots with awning space and 10-amp electric hook-ups, hardstanding pitches for motorhomes and caravans, and a smaller number of fully serviced pitches with mains water and grey waste drainage alongside 16-amp power. A well-maintained toilet and shower block serves the whole site, along with a small on-site farm shop and cafe selling sandwiches, cakes and local Finchale honey.
The park has a dedicated dog walking area and welcomes dogs throughout, and its riverside paths connect directly to walking routes towards Durham itself, roughly three miles south along the Wear. There is no swimming pool or children's playground here, reflecting its adults-only, touring-focused character, making it better suited to couples and retired travellers than families with young children.
