Sheltered riverside pitches at West Luccombe with riding stables on site

About Burrowhayes Farm Caravan & Camping Site

Burrowhayes lies at West Luccombe, in the wooded Horner valley on the National Trust's Holnicote Estate, about a fifteen-minute walk from Porlock and ten minutes by car from Minehead. Pitches are arranged in two touring areas beside Horner Water and a sheltered tent field, with mature trees giving shade and shelter that the more exposed moorland sites cannot offer.

Facilities are a step up from the average farm site: a heated toilet and shower block with baby-changing and accessible facilities, a pot wash with hot water, a coin-operated laundry with tumble dryers, chemical disposal points and a well-stocked shop open daily. Sixteen-amp electric hook-ups are available on many pitches, and static caravans are also available to hire. Dogs are welcome under close control but must be exercised off the site.

The stand-out feature is the riding stables on the farm, which run led pony rides for children and escorted rides for more experienced riders straight out into the Horner woods and up onto the moor. Footpaths from the gate lead into one of the largest ancient oak woodlands in England and climb to Dunkery Beacon, and the coast at Porlock Weir is a short drive. The site opens from mid-March to late October.
