Halse Farm Caravan & Camping Site

Somerset

Small family-run hilltop site above Winsford with big moorland views

About Halse Farm Caravan & Camping Site

Halse Farm occupies a level hilltop a mile above the village of Winsford, with open moorland starting directly at the gate and views that run for miles across the Exmoor hills. It is a small, well-kept site run by the same family for many years, with generous pitch spacing and a genuinely quiet feel: this is a place for people who want birdsong and dark skies rather than entertainment.

The site takes touring caravans, motorhomes, campervans and tents, with electric hook-ups available on many pitches. The heated toilet block is clean and well maintained, hot showers are free, and there is a small play area with swings and an information room stocked with local walking leaflets. Winsford itself, a mile downhill, has a village shop and post office and the thatched Royal Oak for meals.

Exmoor ponies, red deer and buzzards are all regular sights from the field, and the position within the International Dark Sky Reserve makes this a favourite with amateur astronomers. Footpaths lead straight from the site onto Winsford Hill and down to the River Barle at Tarr Steps, a walk of around three miles. Dogs are welcome on leads. The site opens seasonally from around mid-April to the end of October, so check dates before travelling early or late in the year.
