Craigendmuir Park sits at Campsie View in Stepps, on the north-eastern edge of the Glasgow conurbation and about four miles from George Square. It is the nearest touring and camping park to the city centre, and its main advantage is obvious the moment you arrive: Stepps railway station is a short walk from the gate, and the train reaches Queen Street in under ten minutes. That combination lets you camp without driving into the city or paying centre parking rates.
The park is long established and family run, covering a mix of grass and hardstanding pitches for touring caravans, motorhomes and tents, alongside a separate area of holiday lodges and static caravans. Pitches take electric hookup, and the amenity block provides showers, toilets and laundry facilities. Reception keeps basic supplies, and dogs are welcome on leads. The setting is quieter than the address suggests, with open ground and a path network on the doorstep, though you should not expect wilderness at this distance from a major city.
Use it as a base rather than a destination. Beyond the city itself, the M80 puts Stirling and the Campsie Fells within half an hour, the M8 runs west towards Loch Lomond, and the Falkirk Wheel and Kelpies are a straightforward drive east. Local shops and supermarkets are in Stepps village, a few minutes away. Booking ahead is sensible in summer and essential around major events at the OVO Hydro or Hampden, when the park fills quickly with people who have worked out that this is the cheapest bed in Glasgow.
