About King's Head

The King's Head is the centre of gravity in Llangennith, a seventeenth-century inn opposite the church in the village at the north-western corner of the peninsula. It is about a mile from the beach at Hillend, where the three-mile sweep of Rhossili Bay begins and where most of Gower's surf schools operate, and the bar reflects that: a mix of surfers, walkers, farmers and families rather than a hushed hotel lounge.

Rooms are graded four star and split between standard and deluxe, arranged across converted farm buildings around the inn. All are en suite with underfloor heating, flat-screen televisions and tea and coffee facilities, and a full cooked breakfast is included, served between half past eight and half past ten. The place has picked up community and hospitality awards and is run with obvious local commitment.

The kitchen does honest, generous pub food and the bar carries a good range of Welsh cask ales. Practically, this is as far west as you can comfortably base yourself: Rhossili village and the Worm's Head causeway are a short drive, Llanmadoc and Whiteford Burrows are ten minutes north, and the lanes in are narrow enough that you will want to arrive in daylight the first time.
