The Worm's Head Hotel has occupied the clifftop at Rhossili since the 1880s, and the view has not changed: three miles of beach curving north towards Llangennith, the whaleback ridge of Rhossili Down behind, and the tidal island of Worm's Head snaking out into the Bristol Channel below. The beer garden is, by common agreement, the best in Wales.

It is a pub with rooms rather than a formal hotel. Accommodation is straightforward and comfortable, and the ones facing the sea are the reason to book. Downstairs the bar and dining room serve food and drink through the day, from around half past eleven in the morning to late in the evening, and dogs are welcome. Expect it to be full on a fine summer afternoon, when everyone who has walked the coast path arrives at once.

Staying here buys you Rhossili outside visitor hours. The National Trust car park empties by early evening, the light goes gold over the Worm, and the walk up onto the Down or out along the causeway at low tide starts from the doorstep. Check tide times before crossing to Worm's Head; the window is roughly two and a half hours either side of low water and the coastguard hut posts the day's times.
