Skelwith Fold Caravan Park
Cumbria
Five-star woodland holiday park, 4 miles from Grasmere near Ambleside
About Skelwith Fold Caravan Park
Skelwith Fold Caravan Park is a large, well-established holiday park set within over a hundred and thirty acres of ancient woodland between Ambleside and the Langdale valley, a few miles south of Grasmere. It is a considerably bigger and more developed site than the others near Grasmere, with mature trees screening most pitches from one another and giving the whole park a settled, established feel rather than an open field.
The park takes tents, caravans and motorhomes, and its facilities run well beyond the basics: modern shower and toilet blocks, some with underfloor heating, a laundry room with washing machines and tumble dryers, a dog wash station, a drying room for wet boots and waterproofs, and electric vehicle charging points. A recreation field, a woodland adventure course and a recently refurbished children's playground keep families occupied without leaving the grounds, and a well-stocked reception and shop sells essentials and local produce, along with a vending machine for hot drinks. Wifi is available across the site, along with nature trails through the surrounding woodland.
Dogs are welcome, with up to three permitted per pitch, and the park's woodland setting makes it a popular base for walkers heading into the Langdale valley as well as for those visiting Grasmere and Ambleside, both a short drive away. The site is open from March to late November each year, and its five-star rating and consistently high reviews reflect a level of upkeep and facilities well above the average Lakeland campsite.
