Port Mòr Campsite

Argyll and Bute

Community-run site on the beach in Port Charlotte, Loch Indaal

About Port Mòr Campsite

Port Mòr Campsite sits on the edge of Port Charlotte, a conservation village on the shore of Loch Indaal, with the site's own stretch of sandy beach a few steps from the pitches. Run by the local community trust, it is Islay's best-equipped campsite, open from March to November and taking tents, touring caravans and motorhomes across a mixture of grass and hardstanding pitches.

Facilities include modern toilet and shower blocks, a laundry room, free wifi and a small on-site café serving breakfasts and light meals through the day. Fourteen electric hook-ups are available for an additional charge, and the flat, sheltered layout suits families as well as couples touring in a campervan. The village itself is a short walk away, with the Port Charlotte Hotel, a well-stocked shop, and the Museum of Islay Life all within easy reach on foot.

From Port Mòr it is a short drive to Bruichladdich and Kilchoman distilleries, and Machir Bay's wide sandy beach is around fifteen minutes away by car. Bowmore, with its own distillery and wider choice of shops and restaurants, is roughly twenty minutes around the head of Loch Indaal, making the site a practical, well-placed base for exploring the whole western side of the island. Advance booking is strongly recommended in summer and essential during the Fèis Ìle festival in late May.
