About Islay House

Islay House is one of the island's grandest buildings, a 17th-century laird's house at Bridgend that was extensively restored and reopened as a hotel after a long renovation. Set within walled gardens and mature parkland at the head of Loch Indaal, it retains a sense of scale and history rare on Islay, with high-ceilinged public rooms, a library and open fires.

Bedrooms mix period features with modern comfort, and the restaurant makes use of produce from the estate's own walled garden alongside Islay seafood and game. The house's grounds include woodland walks and a courtyard of estate buildings now used for events and small gatherings.

Bridgend sits at the crossroads of the island's main roads, making Islay House a genuinely central base, within easy reach of Bowmore, Port Charlotte and Port Ellen alike, and close to Bridgend Woods, one of the few substantial areas of native woodland on an otherwise largely treeless island.
