Fidden Farm Campsite

Argyll

Family-run beachfront camping by white sand and turquoise water near Iona

About Fidden Farm Campsite

Fidden Farm sits on the Ross of Mull, a mile or so from Fionnphort and the passenger ferry to Iona, and has been run by the same farming family since 1952. The site is a large, open expanse of coastal machair with no marked or reserved pitches: arrivals simply choose their own spot across the field, many of them within a few steps of a sheltered bay of white sand and startlingly clear water.

Camping is on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance bookings taken, and the site fills quickly on fine summer days given its reputation as one of the most photogenic pitches in the Hebrides. Facilities are straightforward but well kept, including modern toilet and shower blocks and dishwashing points, though there is no electric hook-up, in keeping with the site's simple, off-grid character. Dogs are welcome on leads, including on the beach itself, and reception is staffed from eight in the morning until ten at night through the camping season.

The site is open from late March to the end of September and suits tents, campervans, caravans and motorhomes alike, though the approach road is narrow and larger units should take care on the final stretch. Its position, a short drive from the boat trips to Staffa and the Treshnish Isles as well as the Iona ferry, makes it an obvious base for exploring Mull's south-western tip.
