About Staffin Caravan & Camping Site
Staffin sits on the Trotternish peninsula in the north-east of Skye, roughly midway between the island's two most famous landmarks. The Quiraing is a ten-minute drive up the hill road behind the site and the Old Man of Storr about twenty minutes south, which means you can be walking either of them before the coaches arrive. The ground slopes gently towards the sea, with views across the Sound of Raasay to Wester Ross, and the Trotternish escarpment rising behind.
The site has been run by the same family for more than fifty years and is listed by the Camping and Caravanning Club. There are around fifty touring pitches, roughly half of them hardstanding with 16-amp electric hook-up and the rest grass for tents. Facilities are practical and well maintained: free hot showers, 24-hour hot water, laundry and drying, a campers' kitchen, hair-drying points and chemical disposal. A stone bothy gives shelter when the weather closes in, and a small hot-food outlet operates in season.
Staffin village has a shop, a petrol pump and a couple of cafes within walking distance, and the beach at Staffin Bay with its dinosaur footprints is a short stroll away. Dogs are welcome on a lead and there are walks straight from the gate. The site normally opens at the start of April and closes at the end of September, with tent pitches available from late April once the ground has dried. Book ahead for July and August, when Trotternish is at its busiest. Staffin is also a good jumping-off point for the Lealt Falls, Kilt Rock and the fossil coast at An Corran, all within a few minutes' drive.
