About Duisdale House Hotel

Duisdale House was built in 1860 as a private mansion and has spent much of the last half-century as a hotel. It stands above the shoreline of the Sound of Sleat looking east towards the Knoydart hills on the mainland, in gardens that were laid out when the house was new and are still mature enough to shelter it from the worst of the weather.

The interiors take the country-house bones and push them somewhere bolder — deep colours, statement wallpapers, four-posters and roll-top baths in the larger rooms. There are seventeen bedrooms across the house and a garden wing, and two hot tubs on the lawn that make sense of a Skye evening in almost any conditions. The restaurant holds two AA rosettes and cooks a daily-changing menu built on island seafood, Highland meat and produce from the kitchen garden.

The hotel is part of the Sonas Collection alongside sister properties Toravaig and Skeabost, and shares their classic yacht, which takes guests out on day sails from Armadale in the summer months. That, plus the sheltered woodland setting and the short hop to the Mallaig ferry, makes Sleat feel like a distinct holiday rather than a base for landmark-ticking. The Cuillin are an hour north; the Quiraing rather more.
