Gill Head Farm

Cumbria

Quiet working-farm site near Ullswater, nine miles from Keswick

About Gill Head Farm

Gill Head Farm sits in the hamlet of Troutbeck, on the eastern side of the Lake District between Keswick and Penrith, roughly nine miles from Keswick itself and a similar distance from Ullswater. It is a working farm site with panoramic views towards Blencathra and the northern fells, and while it is a short drive rather than a walk from Keswick, it makes a genuinely peaceful, family-friendly alternative to the busier sites closer to town.

The park offers hardstanding pitches with electric hook-up for caravans, campervans and motorhomes, grass pitches for tents, and a small number of insulated camping pods for those without their own equipment. Facilities include a modern heated toilet and shower block, a laundry room, free wifi and a covered seating and cooking area, along with a well-stocked farm shop selling local meat, eggs and other produce direct from the farm.

The site's location makes it a good base for exploring both the northern Lake District around Keswick and Bassenthwaite, and the Ullswater valley to the east, without being tied to one side of the national park. It is popular with families thanks to its quiet, sheltered setting and farm surroundings, and dogs are welcome throughout. Being slightly off the main tourist routes, it tends to have more availability in peak season than sites directly around Derwentwater, while still being within a comfortable drive of Keswick's shops, pubs and fells.
