About Keswick Camping and Caravanning Club Site
Run by the Camping and Caravanning Club, this site occupies one of the best positions of any campsite in the Lake District, on the eastern shore of Derwentwater with the lake and the fells of Catbells and Cat Bells visible from large parts of the ground. It is around a mile from the centre of Keswick along a level, well-used footpath and cycle route, making it one of the easiest sites in the area to reach on foot without a car.
The site takes tents, touring caravans and motorhomes, with a mix of grass and hardstanding pitches and a good proportion offering electric hook-up. Facilities include modern shower and toilet blocks, a small on-site shop for basics, and a laundry room, along with an information point and the usual Camping and Caravanning Club level of upkeep, which tends to be consistently high across its network. Non-members can stay for a small additional charge on top of the standard pitch fee.
Being directly on the lakeshore, the site is a genuine base for swimming, paddleboarding and launching kayaks as well as walking, and several of the classic short fell walks above Derwentwater start within a few minutes of the gate. Dogs are welcome on leads throughout, and the site operates for most of the year, though it is understandably one of the first sites in the area to book out over summer weekends and bank holidays given its lakeside setting.
