Blackberry Wood is a woodland site at Streat, near Ditchling, around six miles north-west of Lewes on the northern edge of the South Downs. It is better known for its glamping than for conventional caravan pitches, having built a reputation over the years for unusual structures tucked among the trees, including converted vehicles, shepherd's huts, treehouses and a yurt, alongside more traditional camping among the bracken and bluebells.
The wooded setting is a deliberate contrast to the open chalk downland closer to Lewes, offering shade, shelter from the wind and a sense of seclusion that is harder to find on the exposed hilltop sites nearer the coast. Simple canvas camping is still available for visitors who want a fire pit and a patch of woodland rather than one of the themed glamping units, and the site's own hand-built shower and toilet facilities have become something of a talking point in their own right, with individually decorated washing sinks and rustic timber construction throughout.
Being further from the town than Housedean Farm, Blackberry Wood suits visitors who want a rural, unplugged few days with Lewes and Ditchling both a short drive away for supplies, food and the evening pub, rather than a base for walking directly into town. Dogs are welcome throughout the site, and its informal, family-friendly atmosphere has made it popular with groups looking for a memorable weekend rather than a conventional caravan holiday.
