Housedean Farm sits on a working farm within the South Downs National Park, on the old coach road between Lewes and Brighton just off the A27. It is one of the closest proper campsites to Lewes itself, roughly three miles from the town centre, and is well used by walkers joining or leaving the South Downs Way, which passes close by.
Pitches are simple and unmarked, spread across sloping grass fields with wide views over the surrounding downland, and there is no electric hookup, which keeps the site feeling properly rural rather than like a caravan park. Facilities are modest but well kept, with flushing toilets, a separate wash area and hot showers housed in timber buildings, plus a small number of glamping options for visitors who want a roof without a full tent kit. Campfires are permitted in fire pits, which is unusual for a site this close to two major towns and is one of the main reasons it is popular with groups.
The farm setting means dogs are welcome and children have plenty of open space, though there is no shop or playground on site, so visitors tend to bring supplies with them or make the short trip into Lewes or the nearby villages. Its position on a regular bus route between Lewes and Brighton makes it usable without a car, which is unusual for a countryside campsite and adds to its appeal for weekend walkers.
