About YHA South Downs
YHA South Downs occupies a cluster of restored farm buildings at Itford Farm, Beddingham, close to Southease railway station and about five miles south of Lewes along the Ouse valley. It sits directly on the South Downs Way, and Southease station on the Lewes to Newhaven line gives it a rare advantage among South Downs sites: proper rail access without a change of vehicle.
The site combines hostel rooms in the farmhouse, granary and long barn with outdoor camping pods, Landpods and premium bell tents, giving visitors staying under canvas access to indoor facilities that a typical campsite would not offer, including a self-catering kitchen, a licensed bar and dining room, and free wifi in the communal areas. The grounds are substantial and open, set within the South Downs National Park with views over the water meadows of the Ouse valley towards Mount Caburn, and the site has hosted large groups and school parties since opening in its current form in 2013.
Camping here suits visitors who want the flexibility of a tent or pod but do not want to be without a hot meal, a shower block or somewhere dry to sit out bad weather, which makes it a sensible choice for a Bonfire Night stay given its short hop into Lewes by train. Dogs are welcome in the camping areas for a small additional charge, and the site's mix of accommodation types makes it one of the more flexible options within easy reach of the town.
