About Hidden Corner Camping
Hidden Corner is a Camping and Caravanning Club certificated site on Millbank Lane at Melling, north of Liverpool and close to Lydiate, roughly ten miles from the city centre. Certificated sites are limited by law to five units, so this is a small, quiet field attached to the owners' smallholding rather than a commercial park, and it suits people who would rather hear chickens than a site tannoy. It is one of the closest places to pitch to central Liverpool.
Pitches are on grass with individual metered electric hook-ups, taking touring caravans, motorhomes, small campervans and a limited number of tents. Facilities are simple but properly maintained: a clean toilet block with hot showers, a washing-up area, drinking water, a chemical disposal point and freezing for ice packs. Dogs are welcome. Eggs from the site's own hens are usually available, which tells you most of what you need to know about the scale of the operation. Booking ahead is essential given the five-pitch limit.
The practical appeal is the access. Pubs and a shop are within walking distance, and the Merseyrail Ormskirk line runs from nearby stations into Liverpool Central in around half an hour, so the city can be visited without moving the van. Aintree racecourse is a short drive, the Leeds and Liverpool Canal towpath is close by for flat walking and cycling, and the beaches at Crosby and Formby are fifteen or twenty minutes away to the west. Owners are consistently praised for being helpful with local advice.
