Wirral Country Park Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite

Merseyside

Coastal club site at Thurstaston, about 12 miles from Liverpool across the Mersey

About Wirral Country Park Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite

This is a Caravan and Motorhome Club site at Thurstaston on the western edge of the Wirral peninsula, roughly twelve miles from Liverpool city centre by way of the Mersey tunnels or the Merseyrail line under the river. It sits inside Wirral Country Park, some two thousand acres of open ground running along the Dee estuary, and the pitching areas look west across the water towards the hills of North Wales. On a clear evening the sunsets here are the main reason people rebook.

The campsite is arranged as several flat grassy areas separated by trees and shrubs rather than one large field, which gives it more shelter than its coastal position would suggest. Pitches take caravans, motorhomes and small campervans, with hardstandings and electric hook-up widely available; conventional tents are not accepted, in line with most Club sites of this type. Toilets and showers are on site, along with chemical disposal, a laundry, gas cylinders, recycling and electric vehicle charging points. Dogs are welcome and there is a great deal of space to walk them.

The Wirral Way, a twelve-mile footpath and cycle route along a disused railway line, passes directly by, and the estuary shore below the site is good for birdwatching, particularly on the autumn and winter high tides when waders are pushed up onto the marsh. Sailing clubs along this coast offer temporary membership to visitors, and there is golf, fishing and walking within a few miles. For Liverpool itself, drive to a Merseyrail station on the Wirral line and let the train take you under the river.
