Expect a proper guest house rather than a small hotel.

There are ten en-suite rooms in single, double and family configurations, all with free wi-fi, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryers and fresh towels. Rooms are plainly but comfortably furnished and kept scrupulously clean, which is the point repeat guests make most often. A freshly cooked full English breakfast is served at weekends, with continental, vegetarian and vegan options available.

Parking is free on site, which alone saves a considerable amount over a city-centre hotel where overnight parking is frequently charged at £15 to £25. The house is also pet friendly, another thing that separates it from most of the central options. For a football weekend it is hard to better: Anfield is a walk away and the Everton stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock is a short drive or bus ride down the dock road.

Bootle is a working residential district rather than a tourist one, and visitors should arrive expecting that. Bus routes along Hawthorne Road run into the city centre in around twenty-five minutes, and Bootle Oriel Road and Bootle New Strand stations put Liverpool Central within fifteen minutes on Merseyrail. It suits football supporters, families on a budget, drivers who want to avoid city parking charges, and anyone travelling with a dog.
