About Luss Caravan and Campsite
Luss Caravan and Campsite occupies a level, sheltered site on the western shore of Loch Lomond, immediately beside the conservation village of Luss. The location is about as convenient as lochside camping gets: the beach, the pier, the parish church and the village's cafes and hotels are all within a few minutes on foot, and the A82 gives quick access south to Balloch and Glasgow or north towards Tarbet and Crianlarich.
The site takes tents, touring caravans and motorhomes on grass and hardstanding pitches, with electric hook-ups available, toilet and shower facilities, chemical disposal and water points. Being on the western shore, it faces east across the loch, which means morning light on the water and sunset behind the hills at your back. The ground is generally firm and drains reasonably well, though as anywhere on Loch Lomond a spell of heavy rain will make itself felt. Dogs are welcome.
What sets Luss apart is that you can camp without being cut off. Cruise boats and water taxis leave from the pier, watersports and paddleboard hire operate from the beach, and there is a decent choice of places to eat within walking distance, so a rained-off day need not mean sitting in the tent. The village does get very busy with day visitors between mid-morning and late afternoon in summer, but it empties out in the evening and the shoreline becomes quiet again. Walkers can pick up the shoreline paths north of the village, and the A82 makes day trips to Balloch, Tarbet or Arrochar and the Cobbler straightforward without moving base. Booking is essential for summer weekends and the site runs on a seasonal basis.
