Lee Valley Camping and Caravan Park sits on Meridian Way in Edmonton, part of the Lee Valley Leisure Complex in the green corridor that runs north from the Thames along the eastern edge of London. It is the roomiest of the capital's campsites, with a wide spread of grass and hardstanding pitches for tents, touring caravans, motorhomes and larger units, and it offers the space that the smaller inner-London sites cannot. The ground is open and level, easy to pitch on, and there is a lake alongside and an eighteen-hole pay-and-play golf course adjoining.
For anyone who does not want to camp, the site also runs cocoon pods sleeping two, cabin pods sleeping four and bell tents, and it offers winter on-pitch storage. Facilities include heated toilets and showers, accessible rooms, electric hook-up and water points, chemical disposal, a launderette, a washing-up area, a shop with takeaway hot drinks, and cycle hire. Dogs are welcome. There is no Wi-Fi across the site, and the playground has been closed for works, so check before booking if either matters to you.
The location works for both halves of a London trip. Buses and the nearby stations put central London within about half an hour, and the North Circular and M25 are close for anyone touring by road. In the other direction the Lee Valley path network runs for miles along the river and reservoirs, good for walking, birdwatching and cycling, with Epping Forest a short drive east. It is a practical rather than a picturesque site - this is north London, and there is background traffic noise - but it is well run, open year round, and the price compares very favourably with anything under a roof in the city.
