About Elm Beds Caravan Park
Elm Beds lies off Elm Beds Road at Poynton, on the strip of Cheshire countryside between the southern edge of Greater Manchester and the boundary of the Peak District National Park. The Macclesfield Canal runs along one side of the park, and the towpath is accessible directly from the site, which gives it a flat, sheltered, rather old-fashioned feel. There are around 22 touring pitches, taking tents, caravans, motorhomes and campervans, and the park opens from the first of March until the end of October.
This is a small independent site rather than a holiday park, and the facilities reflect that. There are electric hook-ups, a sanitary block with showers and toilets, laundry facilities and a washing-up area. Dogs are welcome. There is no shop, no pool and no playground on site, so stock up in Poynton village a short drive away before you settle in for the evening.
What the location gives you is access in two directions. The Middlewood Way, a former railway line converted for walkers, cyclists and riders, runs close by and links Macclesfield with Marple, and the canal towpath offers level miles in either direction. Lyme Park, with its deer herd and Palladian house, is a short drive up the hill, and the moors above Whaley Bridge and Kettleshulme are inside twenty minutes. For Manchester, Middlewood and Poynton stations are both walkable or a very short drive, and the 191 bus runs into the city, which makes a car-free day in the centre entirely practical from a rural pitch.
