Thirlestane Castle Caravan and Camping Park occupies part of the historic parkland surrounding Thirlestane Castle on the outskirts of Lauder, around ten miles from Melrose along the A68. The family-run site has fifty touring pitches, twenty-two of them on hardstanding, and every pitch has an electric hook-up, making it a straightforward choice for caravans and motorhomes as well as tents.
The modern toilet block includes heated, controllable showers, accessible facilities and a washing machine, and the park adds customer wifi, a laundry area and a children's play area to the basic offer. Dogs are welcome, and the site's location just five minutes' walk from Lauder's shops, pubs and hotels means it is easy to head into the town for supplies or an evening meal without needing the car. The Southern Upland Way passes within a few hundred metres of the park, giving walkers a route straight from the pitch, and the surrounding area has fishing and golf on offer for those wanting a quieter day.
The park operates from April to the end of October, and its combination of castle grounds, easy access to Lauder and a full run of hook-up pitches makes it a popular touring base for visitors splitting their time between Melrose, Edinburgh and the wider Borders. Advance booking is recommended for the peak summer season.
