Careys Manor stands on the Lyndhurst Road at the northern end of Brockenhurst, in grounds that back directly onto forest land. The original red-brick Victorian house forms the core of the hotel, with later wings adding a considerably larger room count than the frontage suggests. The location is one of its main assets: the mainline station is a walk away, and marked woodland trails start within a few hundred metres of the car park.
Rooms are split between the manor house itself, where the more traditional and generously proportioned rooms sit, and the modern garden and spa wings. Day guests use it too, so weekend slots for treatments need booking well ahead. Dining runs across three outlets: a French-influenced restaurant holding two AA rosettes, a Thai restaurant, and a more casual brasserie and bar.
It suits couples on a spa break and families who want facilities on site rather than a purely rural retreat, and it works well as a base for touring the park by car or on foot. Those looking for absolute quiet should note that the hotel is on a main road and hosts weddings and conferences, so it is busier and less intimate than some of the smaller country houses nearby.
