Whitlingham Broad Campsite

Fabulous campsite. Toilet and shower facilities were great, with a helpful veranda and bench for loading bikes. Did not get to use the reception/shop as we were late check ins but looked cute. Loved the site layout (big field with a small number of huts around the edge). And we were able to get a Just Eat. Some authenic local noise from train track and flock of Canada Geese.

We made a late booking as many campsites were full so had fairly low expectations. However, the site was clean, flat pitches and the guys that worked there were non stop and always cheerful. The showers got a little cool as it was very busy, but the block was kept clean. On Pitchup it said they were full.. but we got booked by going direct. The Flint Cafe was close, good coffee and small selection for breakfast. Redwell brewery was worth the walk if you like to try local beers .. and they had a fantastic food truck. PIzzas looked good … again Google said they were closed but on checking Instagram we could see they were open All in all, great location and an excellent campsite

I agree with previous reviews that this site has potential. It is in a beautiful location. The staff we met were lovely and the shop was well stocked. The facilities available for the amount of people on site, though, are inadequate. There are four marked female toilets. Two of which had lids that would not stay open. The toilets were frequently grubby and lacked toilet paper towards the end of the day. There are four very dated showers. You have a curtain and a dry area. No bench or any kind of shelf so your things need to stay on the dirty floor. The showers were again quite grubby. The showerheads were so limed up that the spray was all over the place. We stayed for three nights and I did not get anything close to a warm shower any time I tried. There are four open sinks and no places that are dry to put anything down. The hand soap was regularly empty. There are no power points and you can use their hairdryer for £1 a go. In the lower field for camping - there is a drinking water point and an Elsan disposal point. Nothing else. There is a sweet playground for younger children. There are two free roaming dogs on the site. The larger of the two has a loud bark and will pop onto the field to yell at things for a while. The other is a jack russel and is not particularly interested in anyone! They are nice dogs but understandably, some people will find their presence unsettling. We wouldn’t return to the site because the facilities didn’t suit us. However, if you like the area and you don’t mind very basic amenities - it is a nice place!

Has potential but you can get many sites so much nicer, for a lot cheaper. Lower field needs a good chemial spray and some kind of portaloo - unfortunately the whole field smells of urine where people have been too lazy to walk up to main field for the facilities. Parking outside lower field gate needs marking as idiots parked blocking it because they wanted to be as close as possible to top field where they cannot take vehicles. This is the first site I've visited where half the field was packing up at 5am to leave.
