Thornton's Holt Camping Park sits on a working farm in the small hamlet of Stragglethorpe, a few miles south-east of Nottingham off the A52 towards Grantham, close enough for an easy drive into the city but far enough to feel properly rural. The park is family run and has built a loyal following over several decades for its quiet, well-kept pitches and genuinely helpful owners rather than for any particular headline attraction.
Pitches are set across open, gently sloping grass fields with hedged boundaries, giving tents, caravans and motorhomes reasonable separation without feeling regimented, and hook-ups are available across most of the touring area. The on-site facilities are simple but well maintained, with clean shower and toilet blocks, a small shop for essentials and milk, and laundry facilities, while the farm setting means children can watch livestock in neighbouring fields and there is space to let dogs run on leads around the site's edges.
The location works well both for city visits, Nottingham's Lace Market and castle are a short drive or taxi away, and for exploring the quieter Vale of Belvoir countryside to the south, with Belvoir Castle itself within easy reach. Bookings are recommended for summer weekends and during Nottingham's Goose Fair in October, when the site fills with visitors using it as a base for the city rather than the surrounding countryside.
