The Albert Hotel
Mounthoolie Lane, central Kirkwall · Hotel
Independent 30-bedroom hotel in the historic heart of Kirkwall, with stylish en-suite rooms and the popular Neuk bar and restaurant.
About The Albert Hotel
The Albert is an independent hotel on Mounthoolie Lane, effectively in the middle of Kirkwall and a couple of minutes from the cathedral, the harbour and the bus station. It has around thirty bedrooms, including a newer wing with larger suites that have their own kitchenettes, making it one of the more flexible options in town for longer stays or for families.
Rooms are contemporary rather than traditional, with good bedding, en-suite bathrooms and wifi throughout. Published rates run from roughly £130 for a single and £160 upwards for a double or twin, with family rooms from around £200, which puts the Albert squarely in the middle of the Orkney market for a central, well-run hotel.
Downstairs, the Neuk bar and restaurant is a genuine local as well as a hotel dining room, serving Orkney seafood, beef and lamb alongside vegetarian and vegan options, and holding a Taste Our Best award. The bar draws a mixed crowd of residents and visitors and often has music. For anyone travelling without a car, the Albert is about as convenient a base as Orkney offers, with buses to Stromness and the western sites leaving from just around the corner.
