About Glentress Forest Lodges
Glentress Forest Lodges sits at the foot of Glentress Forest, immediately beside the trailhead of one of Scotland's original 7stanes mountain biking centres, a mile or so east of Peebles. The site is built around that location as much as anything else, offering grass and hardstanding pitches for tents, motorhomes and campervans, along with heated timber-frame pods and spacious bell tents for those who want the same setting without bringing their own kit. Electric hook-up is available on the touring pitches, and dogs are welcome throughout, making it a popular choice for riders travelling with a van and a dog in tow.
Facilities are straightforward and geared towards a site used mainly by cyclists and walkers rather than families settling in for a fortnight. There are heated shower and toilet blocks, a communal kitchen with fridges, sinks and worktops, and a drying room for wet kit after a day on the trails, plus secure bike storage for an additional charge. Firewood and disposable barbecues are sold on site, and most pitches have their own fire-pit, so evenings tend to revolve around a fire and a look back at the day's riding rather than an on-site bar or restaurant.
Beyond the mountain biking, the location gives easy access to the Go Ape adventure course nearby, with a discount offered to guests, and to Peebles itself for a proper meal or a shop. Walkers are just as well served as riders, with forest tracks and hill paths radiating out from the site in several directions. It is a no-frills, activity-focused campsite rather than a resort, and works best for visitors whose holiday centres on getting out into Glentress Forest rather than lounging around the pitch.
