Tents-only camping directly on the South Downs Way near Petworth

About Littleton Farm Campsite

Littleton Farm is a tents-only campsite at Upwaltham, a few miles south of Petworth, set in a sheltered valley directly on the South Downs Way. Pitches are spread informally across the field, giving campers plenty of room to spread out rather than being packed in tight rows, and the site's car-free policy around the camping area keeps things quiet and safe for children.

Facilities are kept simple and in keeping with the farm setting: two power showers housed in a converted dairy building provide unlimited hot water, and there are compost or porta-loos rather than a full amenities block. Drinking water comes from an onsite borehole with UV filtration, and the onsite Cadence Cafe serves coffee, breakfasts, sandwiches and cakes, useful given there is no shop on site. Campfires are permitted directly on grass pitches, with logs available to buy, and there is open space for games such as football, cricket and rounders.

There is no electric hookup, and the site does not take caravans or motorhomes, nor does it allow dogs, since the farm keeps livestock. Car parking is limited and must be arranged in advance. What it offers instead is a genuinely rural, walker-and-cyclist-friendly base directly on the South Downs Way, within easy reach of Petworth, Goodwood and the western Downs, and a straightforward, unfussy style of camping that has built up a loyal following.
