The Duke of Cornwall Hotel opened in 1863 and describes itself as Plymouth's first purpose-built luxury hotel, standing on Millbay Road within a few minutes' walk of Plymouth Hoe and the ferry terminal. Its French Gothic exterior, complete with turrets and a distinctive tower, has made it a recognisable landmark on this side of the city for over 150 years, and the building retains much of its Victorian character inside.
