The Sovereign is a genuinely unusual bed and breakfast, set aboard a permanently moored 1930s Rhine cruising ship at Medway Bridge Marina in Borstal, on the edge of Rochester. Originally built to carry passengers on the Rhine and later capable of carrying hundreds of passengers, the 40-metre vessel has been carefully converted into a characterful guesthouse.
Six named cabins, including the Lilac, Yellow, Blue, Green, Bow and Harbour cabins, offer a range of room styles and outlooks over the marina and river, each finished to make the most of the ship's original character. The setting gives guests a genuinely different overnight experience from the city's High Street hotels, with the sound and view of the water a constant backdrop.
Central Rochester, with its castle, cathedral and High Street, is a short walk or drive from the marina, making The Sovereign a memorable base for visitors who want something more distinctive than a conventional hotel room.
