About Rose & Crown Hotel
The Rose & Crown began life as a coaching inn in the thirteenth century and still shows its age in the black-and-white timbered facade facing the River Avon at Harnham, a short walk south of the city centre across the water meadows. Its riverside garden looks directly across the meadows to the cathedral spire, close to the spot where Constable painted his famous view of Salisbury.
Rooms are split between the original timbered building, full of low beams and uneven floors, and a newer wing with more conventional modern bedrooms, so guests can choose character or space depending on preference. The restaurant makes use of the riverside setting with tables looking out over the water, and the hotel's own moorings and gardens are popular for a summer evening drink.
Harnham is a quiet, largely residential edge of the city, so the hotel suits anyone who wants to be within easy walking distance of the cathedral and centre without staying in the busiest part of town. Free parking is available on site, useful given the limited options closer to the Close.
