Fieldhead Campsite

Derbyshire

Classic Peak District camping in Edale, roughly 25 miles west of Sheffield

About Fieldhead Campsite

Fieldhead Campsite sits in the village of Edale, at the southern end of the Pennine Way and around twenty-five miles west of Sheffield across the Peak District, making it a longer drive than the city's nearer sites but a genuinely central base for walking the High Peak. The setting is classic Peak District valley, with Kinder Scout and the surrounding edges rising directly above the site and the village's pub, shop and railway station all within a short walk.

Pitches are mostly level grass with room for tents, touring caravans and motorhomes, and the site has built a strong reputation among serious walkers for its position at the start of one of England's best-known long-distance trails. Facilities include heated shower blocks, electric hook-up on many pitches and a small camp shop selling basics and camping essentials, useful for anyone arriving without a full larder.

Edale's train station gives car-free access from Sheffield and Manchester alike, a genuine advantage for walkers wanting to arrive by rail and head straight onto the hills, and dogs are welcome across the site. Given its popularity with both day walkers and those starting multi-day routes, weekend and holiday pitches book up well ahead, particularly through the main summer walking season.
