Cairnsmill Caravan Park

Fife

Family park on Largo Road, a mile from the centre of St Andrews

About Cairnsmill Caravan Park

Cairnsmill sits on Largo Road on the southern edge of St Andrews, which makes it the closest sizeable park to the town: the walk into Market Street takes around twenty-five minutes, and the bus stops at the gate. The ground is level and grassy with hard-standing pitches for tourers, and the setting is ordinary rather than scenic, which is the trade-off for being able to leave the car parked all weekend.

What sets the park apart is the indoor facilities. There is a heated swimming pool, a gym, a games room and a soft play area on site, along with a bar, and a small trout fishery for anyone who fancies an hour with a rod. That combination makes it a reliable choice for families in changeable east-coast weather, when a wet afternoon does not have to mean sitting in the awning. Touring pitches were recently priced at around thirty to thirty-two pounds a night including car, two adults and under-fives.

Alongside the touring field there are camping pods, a bunkhouse and static caravans available to hire, so mixed groups who cannot all agree on canvas are well catered for. Cairnsmill is a working family park rather than a boutique campsite, and it gets busy in July and August, but for a base within walking distance of the Old Course, the cathedral and the beaches it is hard to better on price. Book well ahead for school holidays and for the golf weeks in autumn, when demand across the whole town spikes and the touring field fills early.
