About Sauchope Links Holiday Park
Sauchope Links occupies a low headland just east of Crail, roughly nine miles down the East Neuk coast from St Andrews and the nearest properly coastal camping to the town. Pitches run close enough to the shore that you can hear the water from the tent, and the outlook across the Forth takes in the Isle of May and, on a clear day, the Bass Rock and the East Lothian shore beyond.
The park takes touring caravans, motorhomes and tents, with grass pitches for camping and hook-up available on the touring bays, alongside lodges and static caravans for hire. Facilities include heated shower and toilet blocks, laundry and a play area, and the site is dog friendly. Being right on the coast, it is more exposed than the inland parks, so choose a sheltered corner if a blow is forecast and peg out thoroughly.
Crail itself is a five-minute walk along the shore path and is one of the prettiest of the East Neuk fishing villages, with a photogenic harbour and a shack selling freshly boiled lobster and crab through the summer. Anstruther, Pittenweem and Elie are strung out along the same road, and the Fife Coastal Path runs directly past the gate in both directions. St Andrews is a twenty-minute drive, which makes this a good compromise for anyone who wants the town by day and the sea at night. Boat trips to the Isle of May puffin colony leave from Anstruther harbour a few miles west through the summer, and are worth building a day around.
